Description |
|
Hospice is a special type of care designed to provide comfort and support to patients and their families with a life-limiting illness that is unresponsive to treatment. Hospice deals with the emotional, social and spiritual impact of the disease on the patient and their family as well as pain management and medical care. The goal of hospice is to improve the quality of the patient's life, not to cure the illness. Hospice services can be delivered in the patient's own home or in a long-term care facility such as an assisted living residence or nursing home. Individuals on hospice receive medical and support services from a team of healthcare professionals including: physicians, nurses, home health aides, social workers, counselors and trained volunteers. |
